Name Calling Non-Sense

I was neutral on the "In God We Trust issue, not wanting to voice my support and push my religious views onto other people's children in the Kern High School District.

But after several days of badgering on the radio and in the newspaper, I raise the white flag.

After listening and reading all the self-righteous, condescending, ultra left and right leaning, finger pointing and bible thumping, I give in.

Commies, atheists and pagans, oh my!!!

Ken Mettler jumped into the mix on Friday, tossing his support firmly behind Chad Vegas, by downplaying the small (20 or so fanatics he said) group that opposes the idea of hanging "In God We Trust" from the walls of classrooms all over Kern County.

He stated that Jacquie Sullivan's action group brought the idea to the school board and any one of the members could have brought it to the meeting for action.

So why didn't someone else? Why didn't you Ken?

I'm guessing that the hysteria being generated would have been less if one of the other trustees introduced the idea than the Pastor of a local congregation.

Or, if Chad just admitted, yea, I like the idea of "God" in whatever form, being part of young people's lives, just as he is in the foundation of this country, then maybe people will let it go.

Not completely of course.

Will the posters end up in the classroom, most certainly.

Do I mind, not really.

But can we get this over with quickly, the kids in the back of the class are falling asleep.

Wow, just give up why don't you? You seemed to have better sense a few days ago in your previous post on the subject, but now you've been worn down? Thanks for fighting for common sense and reason, until it's too much work, of course...

Clearly, anyone who says this isn't an attempt to push a particular religious view is either delusional or an outright liar.

Thanks for giving up.

All the money, manpower, and time spent on talking about an issue that history courses are supposed to take care of with years of exposing students to American history curriculum. And then all the money that will now be spent on posters, that if looks anything like the new Bakersfield sign design and terrible logos (with much overspending I might add) will just uglify classrooms.

Again, what a waste of time!

I'd love to see a panel of actual university educators shred the ideas being pushed forth. But I think they're all too busy laughing.

Although it's a slap in the face to anyone who teaches history and social studies, since the proposal suggests they aren't doing their jobs.

Scott,
It has gone way beyond the simple "In God We Trust" phrase.
That was put to bed in the first few days after the initial blood-letting on this blog, radio and TV outlets around town.
Now, it's like watching someone push a piece of legislation in Washington, that's loaded down with so many adendums to try and make it look more attractive.
Now, in addition to "God" our kids will get the D.O.I., Constitution and Bill of Rights.
AND, every classroom will get an American flag and students will have the opportunity to recite the pledge of allegiance.
SO, do I veto the "In God We Trust" thing because I don't like, but not enough to lose sleep over, and sand bag the rest, or let it slide.
I didn't know all classrooms didn't have a flag, but I was aware that not everyone recited the pledge.
Just picking my battles, not giving up, tech-shizzle.
